History of Seth Thomas Adamantine Antique Mantel ClocksIn the 1860’s, French clocks in slate, onyx or marble cases became popular in the United States. These cases were expensive, so the American clock manufacturers produced similar looking cases made of iron or wood. These clocks have become known to collectors as “Black Mantel Clocks”, and were popular from 1880 to 1931.
Seth Thomas made clocks in marble cases for a short time, from 1887 to ca. 1895. They also made clocks in iron cases finished in black enamel, from 1892 to ca. 1895. Seth Thomas is well known for their “Adamantine” black mantel clocks, which were made starting in 1882. Adamantine is a celluloid veneer, glued to the wood case. Adamantine veneer was made in black and white, and in colored patterns such as wood grain, onyx and marble.
Adamantine veneer was developed by the Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York City, and was covered by U.S. Patent number 232,037, dated September 7, 1880. Seth Thomas Clock Company purchased the right to use the Adamantine veneer in 1881.
Manufacture Dates of Seth Thomas Adamantine Antique Mantel ClocksThe movement provides a guide to the date of an Adamantine clock. At first, most Adamantine clocks used a modified shelf clock movement (called the “hip” movement because of its shape) with the escapement outside the back plate. Around 1900, the model 89 movement was introduced, having the escapement between the plates. The two types can be distinguished from the front of the clock by the position of the regulating square. The back escapement type (up to ca. 1901*) has the regulating square above the numeral “12”. The model 89 has the regulating square below the center of the dial.Manufacture Dates of Seth Thomas Adamantine Antique Mantel Clocks

Usually, the year is done in reverse, followed by a letter A - L representing the month. For example, April 1897 would appear as 7981 D. Below are two examples:

ANTIQUE FRENCH BRASS/BRONZE MANTEL/SHELF CLOCK 15 " W/ PAIR CANDELABRA
Antique Neo-Gothic style French Brass/Bronze Mantel Clock. This garniture set was my grandmother's, more than forty five years ago, and she had it for many, many years before that. I used it until about 14 years ago, when I stored i t. It was a working (time & strike) clock.
Dimensions: Clock is approximately 15" high, 8'' wide, 5" deep (front to back). Candelabra are approximately 12" tall, 7 & 1/2" wide, base is 5" square.
Description: Very good, with original front and back beveled glass. As stated, the time and strike worked when I last used it. Lovely sound. The three pieces have a uniform patina, except the back sides of the clock where it has been picked up many times -- there it is shiny and brighter (See pictures 6 & 7). Weight: Clock is approximately 10.8 pounds; and the candleabra, approximately 6.6 pounds. This set is much more beautiful than the pictures.
Imperfections: This set is antique, and hence, notwithout imperfections. See pictures for some of the following: Finial of clock is bent slightly backward, which is not noticeable from the front (but from the side, it is). ( I did not take a picture of this, but will, if requested.). Enamel of face is slightly chipped around the key holes, and the Roman numeral VIII. (See pictures 1, 3, and 4.) Two small rust color spots on bottom of face enamel (below Roman numeral VI) . (See pictures 1, 3 and 4.) Each candelabrum has one slightly bent candle holder (near the tops). (I cannot get a good picture of this, as the bend is so slight.) Glass hinge on back of clock is slightly loose, but not compromising to closure. I cannot see any further signs of imperfections. I have lost the key and pendulum, so buyer will have to replace these.
Buyer should hire a professional to level, clean and adjust the clock.
Buyer pays shipping. Returns accepted, if buyer notifies seller within three days of receipt of intention to return, and buyer pays return shipping and insurance.
ANTIQUE NEW HAVEN KITCHEN MANTEL CLOCK WITH KEY
Antique Mantel Clock w/ ORNATE GILDED FACE & Pillars & GILDED FEET & Handles
Up for auction here is an old antique mantel clock. The only maker's mark we could find is on the very ornate gilded face which simply reads "S" and "F" on either side of the 12:00 o'clock location. This is a beautiful "petite" style of mantel clock and only measures 17 inches across, 7-1/2 inches deep and 11 inches tall. The key and pendulum is also included here. The clock is key wind and winds "towards the center" on each side. The clock is still ticking as I am listing this, but we have not heard it chime. It looks like there is a little pin holding the hands in place and maybe that's why we are not hearing it chime... not sure. It may need some adjustment or repair... we are not sure as this is an estate sale find. It has beautiful ebonized wood with a lovely carved vine and leaf design. The columns on either side are a beautiful pale creamy marbleized color and the clock has decorative metal feet and side handles. You will see a bit of wear to the top of the wood case. Wish we knew more about this clock. The back of the clock has the sticker from the original jeweler's shop that originally sold it. It reads "M.L Cooveri, the Leading Jeweler & Optician , Vancouver, Wash. Repairing and Engraving." Beautiful old item well worth the very low starting bid!
Shipping price includes delivery confirmation and insurance. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding as this is an AS-IS, NO return auction! We do not know much about clocks and this one may need repair in order for it to work properly. We have described it to the best of our ability. Thanks for looking!
CLOCK UPDATE: We just heard it chime... it WORKS!!! Yay! Nice sound too!

Antique Banjo Clock Cases, No Movements
These Antique Clock Cases have no movements but have something else, Class. These cases come from a time when things were simpler. Both cases have a painted scene's. The Sessions case ( Larger of the two ) has a ship in the forefront and a smaller ship in the background. The paint is flawed behind the ship ( see pic 3 ), what looks like a flaw in front of the ship is light glare there is no flaw there. Above in the painting of the anchor with eagle there is missing paint. This case is missing the round back that would cover the movement, ( see pic 9 ) and the eagle that would be on top of the case, ( see pic 2 ). Other than that the case is in good condition. The dial, hands, bezel and glass are the original that came with this case. The second case ( The smaller of the two ) has the eagle on top of the case the scene is on paper behind glass and is in good condition as is the floral scene above ( see pic 10 ) . This case has a small compartment behind the paper scene at the bottom. The dial is a New Haven Clock dial as is the case but I am not sure if it is the original to this case, and as you can see there is no glass, bezel or hands. On both of these cases the brass accents on both sides of the cases are complete and in good condition. Along with these two cases there was included a Brass bezel with the glass and a sessions dial face ( Metal ). The sessions dial face is 5" because it is squared off ( see pic 1 ) The brass bezel with glass is 5 1/2" DIA. The Sessions case ( Larger ) is 25 " long 8" across the bottom and 4" thick, the dial face is 6" DIA. The New Haven Case is 24" long and at the bottom is 7 1/2" wide and 2" thick.
This came from an estate sale.
Any questions please ask.
sorry no international shipping.

SETH THOMAS ANTIQUE MANTEL/ SHELF CLOCK CASE PART
Antique Ingraham Clock Co GILA Gingerbread Calender Mantel Clock Wall Shelf
With your winning bid you will receive this clock in very good condition. Measurements are approximately 23" tall x 15" wide x 4 3/4" deep. This great old estate find clock has it's original patina and is as found condition. I am not a clock expert, but with some leveling and playing around I got the clock to run and ran it for about an hour. It ran fine other than losing about a minute. It gonged 4 times at 2:00. I think at the very least it may need cleaning and some adjustment. The only bad things I can find worth mentioning, and they're all shown in the pictures, is there is a mild horizontal sepatation in the wood back plate, the clock face has dark spots, and there's some mild fading to the gold coloring on the glass. As usual, low start price and no reserve, with your satisfaction guaranteed, or your money back. I've done my best to picture and describe everything, but if you have any additional questions, I will try to respond promptly. Very low start price and no reserve. Bid with confidence...you will not be disappointed. Whenever possible, I am glad to combine shipping if you win multiple items.
I will mail package within 2-3 days after payment has been received. I pack very carefully and ship via Parcel Post or US Priority. Insurance is an option and is recommended.
Thanks for looking........GOOD LUCK BIDDING!Wednesday, December 21, 2011
Beautiful Antique Cast Iron and Brass, Ansonia Mantle Clock, with Porcelain Face
Hello! Welcome to my Auction! Here for your consideration today is one of my beloved clock's, An Ansonia Mantle Clock. It's a pretty heavy clock for it's size! Ten pound's or so. Dimension's are 12" long, almost 11" high from bottom to top of Brass Topper by 5" wide. This clock has some beautiful brass artwork on the front , the two front feet are brass as is this really ornate clock topper. It look's like two torches held together in the middle with a wreath. This clock seem's to have a cast iron frame that is overlayed with another material. Maybe Ormulu or Adamentine? I'm not sure. The back is all I iron metal, the two rear feet being part of the clock frame. The clock face is Porcelain, also very ornate and has the A marking for Ansonia. The face is in perfect conditon. It's a very nice clock! It is in working condition, has both the Ansonia key and pendulum. It is as I bought it. I had the working's cleaned and adjusted when I first bought the clock about ten year's ago. I think it is has an eight day wind working. It chimes on the Hour as well as the half with hammer on an iron gong. The working's inside have,"Ansonia, New York", stamped on the Brass so this clock would have been made after 1880 when Ansonia expanded their operation into New York from Conn. This clock has not been tinkered with or cleaned, other than the working's. As far as I know it is still in it's original condition. I have not changed anything since owning it. The clock has sat in an old Teak Cabinet since I bought it. This clock will probably need to be adjusted when you recieve it as these clock's have a delicate mechanism that doesn't like being moved around like it will be subjugated to in the mail. I will carefully pack this as I would expect it to be packed for mailing if I had purchased it. This clock does not have a label of any kind on it, only the, Ansonia New York, marking stamped in the brass work's inside. Shipping for this item will be $20.00 within the USA, shipped insured. International Bidder's please use the USPS or UPS shipping calculator for item shipped in a large box weighing 12 pound's. The box demension's being at least 26" by 24" by 15" I would ask that payment be made within 3 day's of the auction closing. Also that anyone having a feedback number less than 10, please email me before placing a bid. Thankyou again for looking, I hope for someone to enjoy this nice clock! Happy Holiday's Everyone!!! Merry Christmas!!! Have a Happy New Year!!!
On Dec-04-11 at 08:35:46 PST, seller added the following information:I was going to relist this item but I hope this revision will be alright. It hasbeen pointed out to me that the rear left leg has an old repair. I was also incorrect in stating that the rear legs were part of the Iron frame. they are not. Each is a seperate piece of metal. The repair, as you can see in photo no. 2 is a strap with two screw's holding the leg to the clock case. One screw goes right into the case. The other keep's the leg from moving, it is tight. I placed a level on the top edges of the clock and it sit's perfectly level. Whomever did this clock repair in the past did a great job leveling it. Once again my sincerist apologies for not realizing what I was seeing, that the strap was a repair job. The clock is still beautiful and work's just fine. For those of you who have already placed bid's before this correction in the item description and wish to retract your bid, that is understood. Thankyou again for looking!

DOXA Le LOCLE REGULATEUR ANTIQUE SWISS 1910’s ORIGINAL RARE WRISTWATCH
ANTIQUE ORIGINAL SWISS REGULATEUR This auction represents rare and unique example of an antique men's timepiece - regulator which was made by DOXA Company and is dated to ca 1910’s. This is a good watch brightly reflecting all canons of classical Swiss watch school and remaining to this day the quintessence of the horological precision instrument.
This unique timepiece features an ORIGINAL porcelain enamel dial that was professionally restored and now is in excellent condition. The three measured units of time, seconds, minutes and hours, are spatially separated from one another. The purpose is to be able to tell the precise time at a glance without the hands covering each other. The hour display and the small seconds display have their separate place on the dial. Only the “large” minutes hand describes its circle from the centre. The original dial is signed “DOXA”– REGULATEUR.
This model of timepiece has four-piece, double hinged case. The existence of an inner dust cover lid is a good sign of a quality watch. It was used to protect the mechanism from dust and debris and to provide an extra layer of protection from shock or moisture. The inside of the outer case lid is stamped DOXA – METAL ARGENTAN - DEPOSE and case reference number #748.838. On the inner lid there are medals and the signature about the prestigious exhibitions where DOXA won.
This unique watch is mechanical and completely original. The original movement is branded too. The signed original movement with genuine jewels is in an excellent status which was very well saved, considering age of this watch. Diameter watch: 54 mm
Thickness watch: 14 mmThe timepiece is in working condition, well hold time. Quality and reliability turned out well to hold at high Swiss level. So ‘DOXA’ - REGULATEUR watch is definitely one of the more interesting, distinctive and collectible watches that you can buy.History: DOXA was founded in 1889 in the heart of one of Switzerland's major and most inventive watch making areas, the canton (district) of Neuchatel's Jura Mountains. The company started as a manufacturer of instrumental panel clocks for racing cars. Georges Ducommum was the founder of Doxa watches. Georges' watches were well known in a relatively short time and he gained a reputation for good quality and reliable timepieces.
Around the turn of the Century Georges gained a wider reputation when several of his watch designs were awarded awards at various exhibitions around the country. Georges continued with innovative designs and in 1908 presented an 8-day movement to a rapturous audience.
In 1910 the name "Doxa" was chosen as a brand name for all of his timepieces. Not content with making just pocket watches, he soon discovered a whole new market for his products, including clocks for the home and automobile and airplane clocks.
Doxa was a widely advertised brand during the years up to the World Wars, and the result was a variety of products including ladies watches and fashion watches, clocks including alarm clocks, and export timepieces.

CYMA TAVANNES ANTIQUE WRISTWATCH SWISS ORIGINAL CLOCK METAL DIAL
ORIGINAL SWISS WRISTWATCH This auction is a unique example of the men’s antique timepiece under a leading upscale Swiss watch brand which was made by CYMA Watch Company. Giving a minimum of attention of a jewelry and decorative component, CYMA Company has found the formula of success in art of exact mechanics – functionality, accuracy, and reliability.
This gorgeous men’s timepiece features an original metal dial with little traces of aging. The watches with metal dials were issued for Army and remained the privilege of officers or for the people conducting an active way of life, for example motorists, race drivers. The original metal face features a 60 minute checkered outer track border with line of red 13-24 hour numbering, black Arabic numerals, original blue steel hands of Breguet-style and a slightly sunken sub-second’s dial. The dial is signed ‘CYMA’.
This model of timepiece features a three piece steel case. The lateral part of the case has corrugating as a coin edge. The winding crown is in very good shape and operates properly.
This watch is mechanical and completely original. The brand name of CYMA Watch Company is stamped on the movement. The signed original movement is in excellent condition. The mechanism was very well saved, considering age of this watch.
This watch was converted from pocket to wristwatch. The pocket watches were not practical in combat. Not to lose the watch out of a usual pocket, the military men have started to weld on the case the second ring or to do two wire lugs and to pass through them a band, for use as a wristwatch.Diameter watch: 47 mm
Thickness watch: 12 mmThe timepiece is in working condition, well hold time. Watch ‘Cyma’ is much known among collectors. Cyma on the wrist identifies its owner as someone who has already proved their point. History: In 1962 two brothers from the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds – Joseph and Theodore Schwob - officially entered the watchmaking ranks under the company name CYMA. The name was inspired by the French word cime, meaning ‘summit’ or ‘the highest point’, which, in turn, is derived from the Latin word cyma, meaning ‘a shoot’. The brothers were trailblazers right from the outset, focusing much of their work on avant-garde mechanical production techniques.
In 1891, Frederic Henri Sandoz, a businessman from Le Locle, created a new watchmaking company «Tavannes» producing both simple and complicated watches, particularly chronographs. A year later, he went into partnership with the Schwob brothers and they founded «Tavannes Watch Co». Only from that time CYMA was pushed into the market.
Soon Henri Sandoz and his partners opened markets around the world, notably in Canada, Russia, United States and the Far East. By the 1920's the Tavannes Watch Co. or Cyma Watch Co. was one of Switzerland's most productive and popular manufacturer's with offices in nearly every overseas market.SHIPPING TIME: Your item will be posted at once after the payment, and it is estimated to arrive in 2-4 weeks (15-30 days) in normal conditions.
