ANTIQUE INGRAHAM CHARLES ADAMS LADY LIBERTY PARLOR KITCHEN ALARM SHELF CLOCK

BEAUTIFUL PATRIOTIC ANTIQUE CARVED WALNUT INGRAHAM LADY LIBERTY ALARM KITCHEN ~ PARLOR CLOCK!

Wonderful E. Ingraham carved walnut kitchen or parlor clock with alarm...popular Victorian era Eastlake style and design with a metal lady head at the center of the top piece. This is a classic clock that was manufactured for Charles Adams...for another example of this model, see Palmer's Treasury of American Clocks, page 183, fig 491. Adams father ran the American Wringer Co., and he also had special models made by Ingraham that he retailed through their stores. Door glass is reverse decorated with Lady Liberty herself, as well as with ships and Staten Island in the background. There is general age and usage wear but the image is still very good...wood slats holding the glass in place are replacements but the glass is original, old wavy glass. The paper on brass dial shows age yellowing...numbers are still very clear...moon hour and minute hands are in place. The pendulum is in place and in fine condition. Case is in very good condition...door opens and closes on good hinges...closing clasp is in fine working condition. Case integrity is very good. Inside we have an 8 day brass movement with a clear incised signature for E. Ingraham. After many years in storage with the estate collection, when wound the clock started right up but only continued to run a few minutes before stopping. We tried this several times with the same result, so there will be some adjustment or repair required for proper working condition. The strike at the hour and half hour is in working condition..alarm system is in place. Key included. As with all of our estate timepieces and clocks, we highly recommend a professional cleaning with final adjustments after shipment to you, for proper working accuracy. Measures in at 24" tall. Ask questions if you have them...will be carefully packed and shipped promptly upon confirmation of your payment.

After listing, an ebayer advises the following regarding the lack of the usual Adams interior paper label: "...have never seen a square back with the green Adams label-- have only seen labels in "round back" Liberties-- and as a result, have about concluded that Ingraham probably made a subsequent run of the design at some point-- probably after the Statue of Liberty festivities in 1886-- and all with a square back-- and as a result, there was probably never a green label in those with a square back...".
