ANTIQUE (?) FIGURAL CLOCK PEDDLER STATUE CLOCK

The Clock Peddler clock has been a popular collectible for many years. Originating in the Black Forest, of Germany, the older ones were made from carved walnut wood. Since those times, peddler statues like this one have been carefully molded from cast iron. The peddler is hand painted in bright vivid colors that make it stand out. The figure is a whimsical colonial man dressed in formal period attire. The clock is 16 inches tall, 8 inches wide (base), and 5 inches deep. He holds a working clock. It hangs from his chest. The front of the clock depicts a hand painted Dutch scene with windmills and boats on a lake. The clock has a fully serviced 30 hour solid brass movement and it runs great. The hands and Roman numerals are bold and black. There is also a non working clock located on the peddler's back. The peddler is on a cast base and shows wear from cleaning and handling. There is a tiny dent on the right of the base. This is typical and although is hardly noticable it adds to the character of the clock. The clock comes with the original pendulum and a key.

This is certainly an excellent example of German Novelty Clockery. The colors make this a stand out clock.
